We had a quiet few months at home, filled with work, study, school, hockey and scouts, all that general day to day stuff really. As things start to wind up we found some opportunties to get out and explore locally.
On our way through Geraldton last year we missed the wildflower season, coming through a little bit too late to enjoy it. Seeing as we were right here and the flowers were in bloom, we took a day out to explore wildflower country. We headed east towards Mullewa, enjoying the carpet of yellow from all the canola fields.
From here we ducked out to Pindar to see the famous wreath flowers, these are plants that grow in rings and look like wreaths all over the ground. Charli found a few that looked like C's.
Next stop was Coalseam Nature reserve where there were colourful flowers wherever we looked. After some lunch we went on a small walk to see an old coal mining chute.
We finished out our day with a visit to Ellendale Pool where the girls tried to catch tadpoles which were there in abundance.
A couple of weeks later all the hype in town was about the Chapman Valley Show which is the local agricultural show. Elly had a hockey game in the morning and I had volunteered to help out on the scout stand at the show in the afternoon and if it wasn't for that we may not have made it. We hit the queue for the carpark 4kms away from the showground and sat in that line creeping slowly forward for a good hour and a half at least. I spent most of the afternoon on the scout stall while Dave and the girls explored the show getting faces painted, going on a ride, climbing the rope bridges and looking at the tractors and old cars. Charli got bored at one point so we sent her and another scout leaders child with the challenge to collect as much free stuff from stands as possible which kept her entertained for a while.
The following day was Fathers Day and after much debate about what to do that day, we decided to take our bikes down to the foreshore for a ride, something we had been wanting to do at some stage. It was a beautiful day and we rode from the port at one end to the big water ball at the other finishing up with some hot chips and calamari to refuel.
