Freedom! (and a visit to Lake Argyle)

We have now been officially released from isolation and are finally allowed back out in public. As time went on I was becoming more anxious about being released as we were feeling like fugitives being cooped up away from everyone for so long. This was not helped by another visitor at the caravan park going to the police the day they departed and reporting that we were breaching our isolation requirements. Thankfully our lovely park manager defended us and outlined all of the measures she had gone to to balance allowing the kids to burn off energy while keeping us away from others. By Friday afternoon when our time was done I was still so paranoid that I wasn't willing to take the car out and opted for a walking exploration of the town.
Saturday morning, after a slightly slow start, we felt safe enough to venture out in the car. We did a quick drive around Kununurra, mainly so Dave knows where to go to work on Monday before heading to Lake Argyle. We passed the resort to begin with, driving over the dam wall and visiting some lookouts. We found a great picnic ground on the banks of the Ord river, where we later discovered was the dumping spot for all the silt below the dam wall during the build, to enjoy an early lunch of bbq'd dim sims.
We then drove back to the resort to check ourselves in for our sunset cruise and got the opportunity to have a dip in their very beautiful but very icy infinity pool. There were a few others doing the same and each newcomer was watched with anticipation as they entered the water and shouted about how cold it was before taking their required photographic evidence and retreating to sunbake around the sides of the pool.

After a quick explore of the caravan park (which we have now earmarked to come back and stay in for a few days when our time in Kununurra finishes up) and a cold drink in the garden we boarded the bus which took us on a quick tour of the dam and then down to our boat - The Kimberley Durak.
We enjoyed the next few hours touring around the northern section of Lake Argyle, enjoying the scenery, spotting crocodiles on the bank (freshwater ones) and feeding some of the local fish. The water was so calm and made Dave hanker for his waterski although not behind this boat. They fed us some snacks (all individually packaged thanks to Covid, no sharing here) and we saw pictures of when the water level was higher and the huge fish that had been caught.
We eventually pulled up as the sun was sinking in the sky and we all prepared to hit the water. Some just floated around, beer or wine in hand, while others climbed onto the roof of the boat and took the plunge from up there. It was all happy and relaxed as we headed back to shore, the sun now behind the hills and all with a bit of alcoholic assistance. Deciding we couldn't be bothered cooking ourselves dinner we opted to buy dinner at the resort restaurant. This was probably helped along when Dave and I both spotted the Surf and Turf on the specials board and decided to share to save some money, it was amazing and hopefully will be on the menu when we go back in a few months.
Today we enjoyed the amazing adventure of doing our own grocery shopping, exciting I know but something we haven't been able to do for weeks now. Dave then cooked us all an amazing bacon and egg brunch, always great when you've had a few drinks the night before. This afternoon we headed out for a walk in the Mirima National Park which we will also visit again and headed up to some of the lookouts on Kelly's Knob, the rock formation overlooking the town.
Tomorrow Dave starts work, and the girls and I have a meeting with the local school about their enrolment for the next few months. They will actually start on Tuesday for 4 days before the holidays begin and will then attend for the whole of term 3. And me, well I get some peace and quiet and start my required readings for this semester of Uni.
