Another few weeks down the track from our sudden change of plans and not much has really changed. As the weather begins to change it becomes increasingly disappointing that we are unable to get away from the cold winter of Melbourne that we were desperately hoping to avoid this winter.
We have gone back to unpack a few more items from the shipping container, just so we can be comfortable but I am constantly finding that I am looking for items I can't access right now. It's a real catch 22, if we keep with the absolute minimum there will be less to repack when it is finally time to go but are we going to be constantly uncomfortable and frustrated? On the other hand, if we get more stuff out, the wait will probably end up much shorter and then we are stuck spending a few more weeks repacking everything before we can leave.
And how is the whole homeschooling situation panning out for us you might ask? Well, it's not quite the way we had planned it, let's be honest, teaching is my forte, not so much Dave's, his patience for that stuff is just not there, but the kids are surviving, they are managing some school work and I have yet to find Dave hiding in a cupboard when I arrive home from work (the shed maybe but not a cupboard).
But, at the end of the day we just have to focus on the positives of this situation:
- Easter was still lots of fun. The "Easter Bunny" left the girls a treasure hunt with clues to find their chocolate which they loved. We had easter egg pancakes for breakfast online with Dad and Christine in QLD and a roast pork lunch while video calling with Mum and Phil, Nicole, Paul and April, Chris, Erin, Paige and Logan.
- While I am now working full time until we leave, my commute to work has almost been halved which is nice
- A range of supermarkets are now within 5 mins, making grocery shopping much less of an expedition to complete
- Dave has got more time to tinker with the set up of the car and van so it will be even better when we do leave
- Having no fixed term to stay here means that as soon as those borders open up we can hit the road as quickly as we like
- Although we are not near our friends, we were going to have to isolate regardless so it really makes no difference at this point where we are located
- We were already mentally (and physically) prepared for the whole homeschooling gig so it hasn't been the major shock everyone else is dealing with
Fingers crossed everything settles down and we can get on the move soon! (but I'm not holding my breath right now)
