Sacrifices

It's been a bit of an emotional week in our house this week. While Dave has been home since just before Christmas, he's been working hard to put the final touches on the house so we can finally say it's finished. For me, I am spending the first school holidays since we've had kids still working and boy does it feel strange. This means that the kids have been entertaining themselves a lot this holidays (which is not a bad thing, they have been out with their friends) or they have been spending some time with their grandparents, uncles and aunties. On Friday, after a fun morning at a pantomime with all the girls from my family we said goodbye to the girls for a week as they head off for a mini holiday with their Nan.

We all know that they will have an awesome time, they always do. Between my Mum and my sister they keep them very busy and the time disappears. Unfortunately the separation came with many tears, especially from Elly. Both the girls have really struggled with me working on the holidays and we have had many conversations about the few sacrifices we are making now so that we can enjoy the adventure that awaits. I took this job knowing that I would have to work this holidays and that it will be worth it in the long run. It doesn't make it any easier though, both Dave and I carry much parental guilt that we are not having the nice time we would like with the kids right now but the trip inches closer each day and I am hanging for relaxed time just hanging out together and having fun!
Meanwhile Dave and I are taking advantage of time without kids at home to knock a pile of jobs off the to do list, the end is in sight.
Official countdown:
Days until we leave: 77
Boxes packed: 15 (packing has been neglected a bit to painting)
Boxes left to pack: more than I want to think about right now
Jobs ticked off the to do list this week: 15
Pantomimes attended by the kids this week: 2 (Playhouse pantomimes - fantastic shows!)
You are right. It will be all worth it once you hit the road.
